Ventek Solutions manufactures molded foam parts, protective packaging and assemblies made from multiple materials. Its company website identifies Owosso as part of its manufacturing footprint.[1]
Corporate background
The company traces its corporate history through Tuscarora, SCA, Tegrant and Sonoco. Its corporate origins date to Tuscarora's founding in 1962; the opening date of the Owosso plant requires separate local documentation.[1]
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation's Owosso profile connects the local Sonoco Protective Solutions operation with the business acquired by Black Diamond Capital Management in 2024 and rebranded as Ventek Solutions LLC.[2]
North Chipman Street property
A Shiawassee County GIS report generated on October 30, 2026 identifies Ventek Solutions LLC as owner of parcel 050-537-000-036-00 in the City of Owosso. It lists the property address as 121 North Chipman Street and the owner's mailing address as 123 North Chipman Street.[3]
The report's sales history records a December 17, 2002 transfer from Mitchell Corp of Owosso to Tuscarora, Inc. for $2.2 million. It also records an April 1, 2024 transfer from Tegrant Diversified Brands, Inc. to Ventek Solutions LLC for $2,331,400. These are property transactions listed in the GIS, which is not a substitute for the recorded deeds. They do not establish the plant's production-opening date or the price and closing date of the entire corporate acquisition.[3]
Owosso plant investment in 2023
In March 2023, MEDC supported an expansion at the Owosso Sonoco Protective Solutions plant with a $162,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. MEDC's later account describes improvements involving steam-chest molding equipment, forklifts, compressors, production-data systems and boilers. It connects the investment with serving existing customers and developing additional business.[2]
Energy-efficiency investment in 2025
The Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership's 2025 annual report describes Ventek facility and equipment investment that improved efficiency and resulted in a $746,937 Consumers Energy rebate. The report does not specify the equipment, total project cost or measured energy savings. This rebate is a separate reported milestone from the 2023 MEDC grant.[4]
Employment recorded in the 2023 housing assessment
The Shiawassee County Housing Market Assessment, prepared by Real Property Research Group for the Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership, lists Sonoco Protective Solutions with employment of 185 in Table 9 on printed page 30. The table credits SEDP for its employer information. This is a historical figure reported in the 2023 study, which does not specify a separate employment census date, full-time-equivalent measure or allocation among worksites.[5]
The study also describes the Sonoco plant's proposed expansion as a $450,000 capital investment expected to create 27 jobs. Those are announced project figures, not documented employment outcomes. The study's expansion paragraph appears on printed page 32.[5]
